Work orders overview

Goal

Understand work orders as production documents that explode an active BOM into planned materials, optionally snapshot a routing, then move cost through WIP into finished goods.

Who it is for

• manufacturing.view — list/detail
• manufacturing.manage — create, Release, Cancel
• manufacturing.produce — Issue all / issue selected, Apply operations, Complete

Statuses

Planned → Released → In progress → Completed, or Cancelled (only when accumulated WIP cost is zero).

Stock and GL (high level)

1. Issue materials — stock production_issue outflow; DR WIP / CR inventory.
2. Apply operation — DR WIP / CR factory overhead (labor + overhead + subcontract).
3. Complete — stock production_receipt inflow; DR inventory / CR WIP; remainder → production variance.

There is no commerce-style Post / credit-note cycle — use release, issue, complete, or cancel.
